Privacy Policy — Taiwan English Lab

This App is local-first. Core learning does not require membership or sign-in, contains no advertising, and has no App-owned backend.

Summary

No account

No name, email, phone, school, address or full date of birth is required.

No tracking

No ads, behavioral analytics, attribution, social tracking or cross-app identity SDKs.

No voice collection

The shipping build does not request microphone permission and does not record, store or upload child voice.

On-device data

Learning settings, placement results, answers and mastery stay in device-local SQLite.

Data stored on the device

Learning preferences
Age band, daily goal minutes, audio speed and reduced-motion settings.
Placement results
Independent CEFR-aligned start-point estimates and placement history.
Learning progress
Items, skills, correctness, response times, spaced-review state and due times.
Unfinished session cache
A temporary local queue so practice can resume after the App is closed; portable backups deliberately omit this transient state.

This project does not collect those records on a server, because there is no App account or App-owned learning backend.

Backups and exports

Operating-system device backup

iOS/iPadOS or Android may include App data in Apple- or Google-managed device backup or transfer flows, depending on the user's system settings. Those services are controlled by the platform vendor. This App does not receive the user's Apple or Google account credentials.

Encrypted portable .eab backup

Users may export an AES-256-GCM encrypted .eab file and save it through the system share sheet to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, NAS or local storage. The passphrase is never uploaded or retained by NaviaWorks; a lost passphrase cannot be recovered by us.

Readable reports

Users may export a summary CSV, or a parent-gated unencrypted JSON / per-answer CSV. Readable reports do not include internal event UUIDs, session IDs, names, emails, location or raw audio. Because they are unencrypted, they should only be saved to trusted locations.

Permissions and network

Access, backup and deletion

Inside the App the user can view local progress, export an encrypted backup, export readable reports, or delete all local data after a parental confirmation. Because there is no App account or backend database, there is no server-side deletion request process.

If the user already saved backups or reports to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, NAS or another service, those copies must be deleted in that service by the user.

Children's data

The product defaults to data minimization: children do not need a real-world identity to use core features. There is no chat, social feed, leaderboard, ad personalization or third-party content marketplace, and children are not asked to publish personal content.

Educational framing independence

CEFR and Cambridge English qualification names are used only as ability-band references. The App is not a Cambridge product, is not endorsed by Cambridge, and does not use official Cambridge logos, shields, item banks, audio or Cambridge English Scale scores.

Policy changes

If a future version adds features that materially change data flows — such as cloud accounts, remote voice services, analytics SDKs or third-party backends — this policy, in-app notices, store privacy declarations and technical architecture must be updated first. The current design does not include those features.
